16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
November 25 to December 10
The 16 Days of Activism is a global movement that invites communities to learn, reflect and take action to end gender-based violence (GBV). At Ontario Tech, this campaign highlights the realities of GBV in Canada, strengthens our culture of respect and supports a campus environment where all students feel safe, included and valued.
Why should it matter to you?
Gender-based violence affects people of all genders— specially women, 2SLGBTQI+ students, racialized students, newcomers and students with disabilities.
In Canada:
- 1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 trans or nonbinary people experience GBV.
- 71 per cent of post-secondary students witness or experience sexual violence.
- Young adults aged 15 to 24 face the highest rates of violence.
GBV isn’t only physical—it includes digital harassment, coercion, stalking and controlling behaviours common in student life and online spaces.
