Art Hive

The Living Room Community Art Studio has partnered with our university to give you a creative break and enjoy some self-care. The Creative Wellness Hive is a chance for you to make and share art for free! If you see the blue bus at our north or downtown Oshawa campus, stop by for some well-deserved fun and to learn more about our campus supports and services. 

Join the LivingRoom Community Art Studio in Polonksy Commons on the following days:

Do you identify as BIPOC, Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+ or Neurodivergent? We want to get creative with you! We've partnered with the LivingRoom Community Art Studio to bring art drop-ins to you. Join us as we explore identity through creative self-expression. Friends and allies are welcome!

Depression Support Group

Are you feeling sad, isolated, unmotivated or living with extended periods of low mood? You are not alone. Register for the Depression Support Group to connect with other students who share these struggles and to learn coping strategies for improving your mood and quality of life.

Please note: This is an eight week group and students are expected to attend every week. If the timing conflicts with your class schedule or other commitments we encourage you to check back for future group offerings instead.
We ask that students attend group with cameras on.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills group

The Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills group provides support in the areas of emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and mindfulness. Sessions are conducted virtually on Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 3 p.m. Students may register for any of the three modules or for the full 24 week cycle. Mental Health First Aid

For February Reading week 2026, Student Mental Health Services is offering you the opportunity to get certified in Mental Health First Aid. There is no cost.  Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate. 

The course is 7 hours in length and delivered in a single day from 10am to 4:30pm (including a 30-minute lunch break). 

There are 3 dates from which you can pick to do the course:
Tues Feb 17 or
Wed Feb 18 or
Thurs Feb 19

To earn the certificate, you must attend and fully participate in all 7 hours.  Participants who miss more than 30 minutes will not be able to complete and will not receive a certificate.   

  • Registration deadline: Thursday, Feb 5th at noon – registration is first-come first-served. 
  • How to register: Email jeremy.greenberg@ontariotechu.ca with: MHFA and the date you prefer (e.g. MHFA Wed Feb 18). 


Space is limited to 15 students per date, and registration is on a first-come first-served basis.  Registrants will receive an email confirmation with additional information by Tues Feb 10th.

More information about the training:

Mental Health First Aid Basic training is intended for adults interacting with adults (18 years and older). This course focuses on the four most common mental health disorders including substance related, mood related, anxiety and trauma related, and psychotic disorders. Participants who take this course are better prepared to interact confidently about mental health with their family, friends, communities, and workplaces.

International evaluations and feedback have found the following outcomes for participants undertaking a Mental Health First Aid course:

  • Increased awareness of signs and symptoms of the most common mental health problems
  • Decreased stigma related to mental health
  • Increased confidence interacting with individuals experiencing a mental health problem or crisis
  • Increased help provided to individuals in crisis or experiencing a mental health problem

Mid-week mindfulness group 

Could you use some more mindfulness or self-compassion in your life? Couldn't we all? Join Bonnie Pedota, Mental Health and Wellness Facilitator, on a journey of learning, discussion and practice.

This group will explore mindfulness for five weeks, then self-compassion for five weeks.
