Ambassador Program

What is the Ambassador program?

The Ambassador Program is a leadership development program in which students attend training to develop soft and leadership skills, including an array of themes within the domains of communication, community, reflection, leadership, equity and cultural safety.

Following ongoing training opportunities, students have the chance to get involved on campus in leadership positions.

Why become an Ambassador?

  • Add a valuable experience to your Student Experience Record.
  • Gain practical leadership skills and experience to add to your resumé.
  • Meet students with similar interests and build interpersonal relationships.
  • Participate in experiential learning opportunities and get involved on campus.

Program breakdown

The Ambassador Program consists of four levels. Only one level can be completed each year.

Level 1 consists of:

  • AODA training
  • Group training session (approximately two hours)
  • Mental health 101 training
  • Online module completion (approximately two hours)
Completing Level 1 will get you 15 points. Points are collected after completing the online modules and group training session by attending events, volunteering and completing ongoing training.

Please note: To be considered an Active Ambassador, only Level 1 is required.

We offer 3 specializations: Inclusion and Belonging Specialization, Wellness Specialization, and Advanced Leadership Specialization. Each specialization consists of a training element, individual project, participation in the community, and an exit survey.

Inclusion and Belonging Specialization: The Belonging and Inclusion specialization continues the foundational learning of U Belong to provide students with opportunities for in-depth and individualize development of equity practices which they can apply in leadership roles across campus.

Wellness Specialization: If you're passionate about health, wellness, or helping others, this specialization is for you. Learn how wellbeing shapes the student experience, discover strategies to support your own health, and contribute to initiatives that help students thrive both on campus and beyond.

Advanced Leadership Specialization: Ambassadors who have shown interest in further leadership development beyond theory, are invited to take part in volunteer, facilitation, and additional leadership opportunities that move beyond the typical Ambassador volunteer opportunities.

Specializations are entirely optional. Ambassadors can choose to only complete Level 1, 2, and 3, or add a specialization to their training. As always, there is no requirement to move beyond Level 1, so long as Ambassadors continue to collect 10 points per academic year.

More information about specializations is offered to Ambassadors once they join the program.
